Pillow Talk with... Lonika Chande

Pillow Talk with... Lonika Chande

October 11, 2025

Welcome back to The Nightstand. As Autumn settles in, we're celebrating the shift in light, colour, and creativity that this season inspires. It's a time for cosy transformations, thoughtful touches, and finding beauty in the small details that make a space feel like home.
With this in mind, we opened our first shop in Belgravia - a huge milestone that marks an exciting new chapter for us. And what better way to introduce this season’s edition than by spotlighting the designer who helped bring the space to life?
In this issue, we visit Lonika Chande, designer and owner of an Interior design studio based in South West London. Since launching her award-winning practice in 2017, Lonika has made waves with her bold, joyful use of color and pattern. Her work quickly caught the attention of the design world, earning her House & Garden’s inaugural The List Award for Design Talent in 2020, followed by a coveted spot on their Top 100 Designers list.
With a strong technical foundation and a playful, ever-evolving design style, Lonika brings together antique finds, contemporary pieces, and carefully chosen art to create spaces that feel both timeless and completely one-of-a-kind.

WHAT IS ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND?

In a bid to read more, there’s a growing stack of books on my nightstand, Hello Beautiful being the most recent finish! You’ll also find the essentials: hand cream, night cream, magnesium supplements, a lacquered trinket tray for the jewellery I wear every day, and of course, a glass of water always within reach.

WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE BEDTIME ROUTINE?

My ideal wind-down ritual? A hot bath with Verden’s Arborealist bath oil, followed by a proper cleanse. Then it’s into bed with freshly ironed sheets, a chapter of a good book, and an early night.

YOUR ONE PEARL OF WISDOM FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP?

No screens a good hour before bed, which I admit doesn’t always happen!

AND ONE FALLACY?

For me, it would have to be an eye mask, because there’s nothing restful about having something strapped to your face when you’re trying to wind down for bed!

WHERE DO YOU FIND YOURSELF DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM THESE DAYS?

Exploring the way people live with the things they’ve collected. Homes that feel layered with memories. Memory plays a big part for me. I often come back to colours or textures that remind me of places I grew up in or visited as a child.

WHOSE BEDROOM WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO SNOOP AROUND?

The late Madeleine Castaing’s. WHAT'S THE FIRST THING YOU REACH FOR WHEN YOU WAKE UP?

My children, despite my best efforts, tend to find me before my alarm does at the moment.

YOU DESIGNED OUR VERY FIRST SHOP IN BELGRAVIA - WHERE DID YOU BEGIN WHEN IMAGINING THE SPACE?

To begin with, we focused on the materials and palette. We kept the bones of the space simple, with plaster-coloured walls and added nostalgic touches through hand printed floral fabrics, patterned tiles, gathered curtain details, and antique furniture.

WHAT DID YOU WANT THE SHOP TO FEEL LIKE?

We wanted to create something that feels both timeless, soft and inviting. We imagined the shop as a warm and restful home that you’d want to linger in.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST FOR YOUR WORK?
I find myself most inspired by my travels. I visited Tangier earlier in the summer, and that was a particularly inspiring trip. We visited weavers, rattan makers and local markets as well as the homes of some incredible collectors. It was heaven.

WHAT IS ON YOUR BREAKFAST-IN-BED TRAY?

A black coffee, toasted rye with butter and marmite, and the latest World of Interiors.

YOUR FAVOURITE IF ONLY IF NIGHTIE IS...

Jessie in Blue Cornflower!

WHEN IT COMES TO BED, NOTHING FEELS BETTER THAN...

Freshly ironed sheets, and a nice cool room.
